Septima Clark Public Charter School (“Septima”) was founded with a unique mission: to develop well-rounded young men in Ward 8 by equipping them with the academic and moral training needed to “compete, achieve, and contribute” in academic institutions of distinction.
Due to a number of factors, including lack of a physical space for the next school year and low academic performance, Septima Clark Public Charter School is closing. The last day for students is Thursday, June 20, 2013 and the last day for all teachers and staff is Friday, June 21, 2013.
To ensure that the Septima scholars receive a stellar education, many of the scholars will attend Achievement Preparatory Academy (“Achievement Prep”), one of the top performing charter schools in Washington, DC. On Monday, February 25, the Public Charter School Board (PCSB) unanimously approved the transaction between Septima Clark and fellow Ward 8 charter school Achievement Preparatory, whereby Achievement Prep will acquire Septima’s assets and guarantee seats for most of Septima’s scholars for the 2013-2014 school year. As a Tier 1 school, Achievement Prep has a proven track record of successfully educating Ward 8 boys.
